Interchange 17 Reconstruction Project to Necessitate Lane Closures and Traffic Stoppages on I-87

ALBANY, NY (01/28/2008; 1342)(readMedia)-- The New York State Thruway Authority today announced that steel work being conducted as part of the Interchange 17 Reconstruction Project will necessitate lane closures and periodic traffic stoppages on I-87 next week, weather permitting.

Lane closures will be in place near Interchange 17 (Newburgh, I-84, Route 17K, Stewart Airport) in the northbound direction, weather permitting:

• 6:00 p.m. Monday, January 28 until 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 29

• 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 29 until 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 30

• 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 31

Periodic traffic stoppages will be necessary during the lane closures. The stops are expected to last no more than 10 minutes each.

The Authority has activated Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) in advance of the closures to advise motorists of the closures and traffic stoppages. Motorists are urged to tune to Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) 1610 AM for updates.

The work is being completed by A. Servidone/B. Anthony Construction Corporation of Castleton, New York and is scheduled to be completed by November 2009.

The Authority appreciates motorists’ patience while this essential project moves forward. -30-
