Jayne McLaughlin Named Director of New York State Parks Taconic Region

ALBANY, NY (01/23/2008; 1348)(readMedia)-- New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commissioner Carol Ash today announced that Jayne McLaughlin has been named director of the Taconic Region.

“For thirty years, Jayne has brought leadership, passion, direction and vision to State Parks. Her experience and dedication to the park system are unparalleled. In this new position, Jayne will continue to be a valuable asset not just to her region but to the entire parks system,” Ash said.

McLaughlin began her career at State Parks in 1978 as Assistant Director of the Young Adult Conservation Corps at Allegany State Park. From there, she held park manager and director positions throughout the state park system. Since 2004, McLaughlin has served as the Deputy General Manager for the Palisades Interstate Park Commission. From 1998 to 2004 she served as Taconic Regional Director, the position she is returning to.

“Throughout her accomplished career at State Parks, Jayne has been responsible for some of the largest parks in our system including Letchworth State Park, Allegany State Park and Franklin Delano Roosevelt State Park. Her managerial and supervisory skills are among the best in our parks’ leadership,” said Ash.

McLaughlin holds a BA in Biological Sciences and a MA in Science Education, both from Cornell University.

The Taconic Region is home to more than 16 state parks and historic sites. The region includes many of the state’s most visited and acclaimed historic sites, such as Olana, Clermont and Staatsburgh State Historic Sites. State parks in the region include Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Lake Taghkanic and Clarence Fahnestock State Parks as well as the Rockefeller State Park Preserve.
