JENNIFER STARK-HERNANDEZ, Community Organizer of the Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance
Jointly produced by the Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance and the Municipal Art Society, the film "City of Water" features footage from Jamaica Bay, the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and many other places on the waterfront. Public officials, academics, community activists, recreational boaters and everyday New Yorkers share their aspirations for the waterfront's future. The documentary features interviews with Former Deputy Mayor Daniel Doctoroff, US Representative Nydia Velazquez, MacArthur Fellow Majora Carter, author Phillip Lopate, Sandy Hook Pilots' Captain Andrew McGovern and others as they discuss how the current environmental situation will impact the waterfront for the future.
Jennifer Stark-Hernandez joined Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance as a community organizer in February of 2008. Ms. Hernandez will discuss the film after it is shown. Previously she managed grants and fiscally sponsored projects at the San Francisco Parks Trust. A California native, Jennifer is thrilled to be back in her true home, Brooklyn. Jennifer has volunteered with many New York City groups including More Gardens, Green Map System and Times Up. She is a graduate of Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University where she studied studio art and urban studies. She also did graduate work in architecture at University California Los Angeles.
