Laborers Recruit Apprentices

BUFFALO, NY (10/30/2007; 1440)(readMedia)-- The Buffalo Laborers’ Joint Apprenticeship Committee will conduct recruitment on November 6, 2007 and February 5, 2008 for 10 construction craft laborer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.

Applications will be available at the Buffalo Laborers’ training center, 1370 Seneca St., Buffalo, on November 6, 2007 and February 5, 2008; from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., or until 25 applications have been distributed on each date, up until 3 p.m., whichever occurs first.

The committee requires that applicants:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have a high school or general equivalency diploma.
  • Have a valid driver’s license – apprentices will be required to drive company vehicles.
  • Have reliable transportation.
  • Be physically able to do the work and pass a physical examination and drug test at the sponsor’s expense – after acceptance for the program.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
