Community mobilizes to make a difference—with hands-on service projects for kids.
BROOKLYN, NY (07/30/2008; 0830)(readMedia)-- Children for Children (CFC), a not-for-profit organization, in partnership with People to People's Student Ambassador Programs, will mobilize hundreds of volunteers to carry out more than 25 service projects, all in one park, all in one afternoon of music, popcorn, games, and youth activism. All are invited to participate in this free community fair, completing projects appropriate for all ages (as young as 2). Come plant a flower for a senior citizen, paint a mural for a local school, or make a "peace bracelet" for someone affected by domestic violence.
"Through our monthly volunteer events like this, Children for Children hopes to make a lasting impact on New York youth and encourage all to become leaders in their own communities," said Maggie Jones, Executive Director of Children for Children. "Partnering with programs like People to People allows us to make a far-reaching impact, uniting children and youth of all ages, from diverse backgrounds, in a fun community-service environment. We invite youth, families, schools, and community-based organizations to help us make this a meaningful day and prove that children and youth have the power to change the world."
"Last year, our students provided over 116,000 service hours," said Jeff Thomas, CEO of People to People Ambassador Programs. "We're excited to continue our mission of creating global citizens with great organizations like Children for Children."
CFC's events mobilize young people to identify and address community needs through service, helping to put them on a life-long path of civic engagement. CFC's young leadership team, the Children's Action Board (CAB), which offers children ages 5 and up the chance to volunteer, will kick the fair off with a 1:00 picnic.
Location: Carroll Park, Brooklyn NY (on Carroll Street between Smith Street and Court Street)
Time: 2:00 - 3:30 PM
