CORTLAND, NY (07/01/2008; 1127)(readMedia)-- Mary Kate Boland of Cortland, N.Y., was named assistant director of leadership and community involvement in the Campus Activities and Corey Union Office at SUNY Cortland, on May 15.
A 2006 SUNY Cortland graduate and former student government president, Boland has served as the interim assistant director since 2007. She reports to Michael Whitlock, director of Corey Union and Campus Activities and Conferences.
Her responsibilities include advising student groups, administering leadership development programs and organizing late night programming and major weekend events. She also advises the Student Activities Board of the Student Government Association and supervises a graduate student employee.
"All of us in campus activities are thrilled to welcome Mary Kate to our staff full time," Whitlock said. "We are so encouraged to have someone who has such a refreshing perspective on student leadership, student club advisement and desires to initiate new outlooks on major programs."
Boland was a project administrator with LPCiminelli, Inc., in Buffalo, N.Y., from July 2006 to August 2007, where she tracked and reviewed contracts, bonds, insurance certificates and project submittals and regularly communicated with architects and contractors.
A native of Niagara Falls, N.Y., Boland earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology. As a student at SUNY Cortland, Boland served in several leadership positions, including vice president of the Auxiliary Service Corporation and as a dispatcher in the SUNY Cortland University Police Department.
