Media Advisory ~ Commissioner To Promote Real Christmas Trees

ALBANY, NY (11/30/2007; 1440)(readMedia)-- New York State Agriculture Commissioner Patrick Hooker will be visiting Massoud’s Tree Farm in Sauquoit on Monday, December 3, 2007 at 11:00 am to promote the benefits of harvesting a New York State grown Christmas tree. At the farm, the Commissioner will cut down one of the farm’s many beautifully grown trees to help celebrate the holiday season.

This event will celebrate the notable Christmas tree industry in New York State and promote the use of real, locally-grown Christmas trees during the holiday season. According to the 2002 U.S. Census of Agriculture, New York ranks nationally in the top five for Christmas tree production with approximately 1,000 Christmas tree growers, utilizing 32,600 acres across the State.

Massoud’s Tree Farm is a nursery and bed and breakfast that has over 300 acres of trees, both evergreens and deciduous. With more than 100 acres devoted to Christmas trees, Massouds offers both fresh cut and choose and cut trees, including Balsam Fir, Fraser Fir, Blue Spruce and Red Pine. The Massouds are a member of the Pride of New York program.
