One of Many Great Opportunities to Learn More About Fishing in New York State
ALBANY, NY (04/15/2008; 1408)(readMedia)-- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is holding a free fishing clinic on Wednesday, April 16, at Saratoga Spa State Park. The event will be held at 11 a.m. at Geyser Brook during the annual state park fish stocking.
Each year, DEC’s regional offices sponsor clinics to help teach adults and children the basics of fishing. Typically, participants are supplied with equipment and learn about fish identification, fishing equipment and techniques, fisheries management, angling ethics and aquatic ecology. No freshwater fishing license is required at these events.
While a DEC fishing license is not required for either the free fishing weekend or regional free fishing events, DEC’s other fishing rules and regulations remain in effect. To learn more about New York’s regulations, go to www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7917.html on the DEC website. For more information on how and where to obtain a fishing license, go to www.dec.ny.gov/permits/6101.html on the DEC website.
