Six-Lane Turnpike Widening Ribbon Cutting/$330 Million Project Completion Ceremony & Tour

The Eastern Regional Office is located adjacent to Bridgeport, along the PA Turnpike. A receptionist is on duty from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and can be reached at 610-279-1645.

PROGRAM: Promptly at 11:00 a.m. the ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on the ramps adjacent to the ERO overlooking the new 6-lane roadway.An overview of the project will be on display in the boardroom before and after the ceremony and tour.

Speakers: Joseph G. Brimmeier, Chief Executive office Pennsylvania Turnpike and senior executives representing the chief engineering/design and construction firms that performed project work.

Tour for Media and Public Officials Immediately Following Ceremony Outside: The tour will cover the entire 7- mile project area, will last approximately 45 minutes and highlight significant portions of this major suburban Philadelphia regional transportation improvement project.

BACKGROUND: The Turnpike's $330 million total reconstruction and 6-lane widening of 7 miles of Turnpike roadway between Valley Forge and Mid-County Interchanges. Originally built in the 1950's, reconstruction of this portion of the highway began in 1998 with the $35.6 million Schuylkill River Bridge Project that resulted in a new six-lane bridge.

The current project, the 5.3 mile, six-lane widening and bridge reconstruction between the Valley Forge (Exit# 326) and Norristown (Exit #333) Interchanges opened to traffic before the Thanksgiving holiday. It is the Turnpike's largest expansion project completed to date.
