Media Advisory: Officials To Highlight Tax Credits For Low-Income Families

Volunteers Offer Free Income Tax Assistance

ALBANY, NY (01/29/2008; 1515)(readMedia)-- State Commissioners David A. Hansell, of the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA), and Robert L. Megna, of the Department of Taxation and Finance, will be joined by local officials and community leaders Thursday to promote free tax preparation services and tax credits available to low-income, working New Yorkers.

A press conference will be held Thursday, January 31, at 10 a.m., at the volunteer tax preparation site located in the lobby at 40 N. Pearl Street, in Albany. Officials will encourage eligible low-income working families and individuals to take advantage of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), as well as the free tax preparation services offered by the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

The VITA sites are located throughout the Capital Region and across New York State.

Commissioner Hansell and Commissioner Megna will be joined by Albany County Executive Michael Breslin, as well as representatives of the Internal Revenue Service and the United Way.
