ALBANY, NY (09/28/2007; 1146)(readMedia)-- In celebration of several achievements that will significantly enhance and improve the Hudson River Valley, state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Pete Grannis will hold a press conference at the recently renovated Norrie Point Environmental Center. The Center is located along the Hudson River in the Margaret Lewis Norrie State Park, off Route 9 in Staatsburg, Dutchess County.

On Saturday, September 29 – National Estuaries Day – starting at 11:30 a.m., Commissioner Grannis will be joining federal and state officials, environmental advocates, and other dignitaries to announce new protections for the Tivoli Bays Wildlife Management Area, commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve, and mark the official grand reopening of the Norrie Point Environmental Center.

The Commissioner is expected to be joined by John Dunnigan, Assistant Administrator of the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Ocean Service; Congressman Maurice Hinchey; state Senator Stephen Saland; Assemblyman Marc Molinaro; President of Scenic Hudson Ned Sullivan; representatives from the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, The Nature Conservancy, and others.
