Capital District Construction Career Days

ALBANY, NY (04/23/2008; 1427)(readMedia)-- State Department of Transportation Commissioner Astrid C. Glynn will be attending the Seventh Annual Capital District Construction Career Days events on Thursday, April 24, at the Eastern New York Laborers Training Facility on Wemple Road in Glenmont, Albany County, beginning at 10 a.m. The events, designed to promote construction careers to high school students, include exhibits, demonstrations from skilled trades people and opportunities for students to try their hands at operating heavy equipment, such as backhoes, bulldozers and excavators.

Construction Career Days is sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration, the State Departments of Transportation and Labor, the Dormitory Authority of New York State and various labor organizations. More than 3,500 students from more than 150 schools are expected to participate in two days of events.

DIRECTIONS:

From the New York State Thruway (Interstate 90), take Exit 23 for U.S. Route 9W and I-787, exiting immediately after the toll booths for U.S. 9W South.

Off the exit ramp, turn right onto Southern Boulevard/Route 9W South.

Follow it for about .08 miles and then turn left onto Corning Hill Road/ State Route 32.

Follow that for about .07 miles and then turn right onto River Road/Route 144.

Follow it for about 3.2 miles and take a right onto Wemple Road.
