LABOR DEPARTMENT TO HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE TO ANNOUNCE LEGISLATION IMPACTING WORKERS IN THE CAPITAL REGION
ALBANY, NY (09/02/2008; 0827)(readMedia)-- State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith will be holding a press conference at the former site of Tech Valley Printing in Watervliet to announce the signing of the state Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act by Governor David A. Paterson. The law will strengthen provisions currently established by the federal government by providing more advance notice to workers facing layoffs. In addition, it decreases the size of companies required to file a WARN Notice and provides the Labor Department with a strong enforcement capacity to act on behalf of impacted workers.
