NYS Labor Department to Co-Sponsor Asian Job Fair

ALBANY, NY (05/05/2008; 1714)(readMedia)-- The New York State Department of Labor, in cooperation with the Asian Job Service Employer Committee (JSEC), will co-sponsor the Asian Job Fair on Wednesday, May 7 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel Flushing Center, 135-20 39th Avenue, in Flushing. From Grand Central Station, take the #7 subway train to Flushing, Main Street (the last stop). The hotel is located one block away from the subway station. The event is free to all job seekers. Industries represented include: health care, communications, food service, information technology, security, hospitality, social services, education and transportation.

“During these tough economic times, it is more crucial than ever that the Department of Labor help get New Yorkers working,” said State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith. “We offer a variety of services, like career counseling, resume development, training programs, and apprenticeship opportunities; all in an effort to get workers back on their feet so they can support their families.”

Job seekers are encouraged to bring several copies of their resume to the event to share with perspective employers. Approximately 80 companies will be attending the event, offering more than 2,000 job opportunities for job seekers. The job titles available include: financial/customer service representatives, program managers, business analysts, engineers, LPNs, RNs, electricians, mechanics, managers, drivers, web designers and security officers.

Some of the companies attending the job fair are: Federal Express, Time Warner Cable, Verizon, World Journal, Jewish Guild for the Blind, New York Life, Civilian Complaint Review Board, Queens Borough Public Library, U.S. Census Bureau, United Parcel Service, Prudential Financial, Chinatrust Bank, Davis Vision, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Delta Airlines, and AFLAC NY.
