BUFFALO, NY (09/29/2008; 1256)(readMedia)-- The New York State Department of Labor will co-sponsor the West Side Job Fair on Wednesday, October 8 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Father Belle Community Center -104 Maryland Street, Buffalo, NY. The event is being held in conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month and is free to job seekers. Industries represented include banking, healthcare, insurance, manufacturing, collections, warehouse, tax preparer.
"During these tough economic times, it is more crucial than ever that the Department of Labor help get New Yorkers working, said Commissioner Smith. "We offer a variety of services, like career counseling, resume development, training programs, and apprenticeship opportunities; all in an effort to get individuals back to work as quickly as possible."
Some 40 employers will attend the event. They are offering more than 100 full- and part-time positions. The job titles available include: customer service, healthcare, office assistant, sales, installers, service counselors, claims representatives, production workers, Spanish speaking customer service reps, technicians, clean room operators, data entry, service technicians and financial representatives.
Some of the companies attending the job fair are: Graphic Controls, GEICO, Hospice of Buffalo, KR Communications, Rand & Jones Enterprises, Healthforce, Capital Management, Carleton Technologies, Complete Personnel Solutions, Time Warner Cable, Appleone, Catholic Health System, Kelly Services, NCO Financial Services, Multisorb Technologies, Kaleida Health, H & R Block and M & T Bank.
Job seekers are encouraged to bring several copies of their resume to the event to share with perspective employers.
The Labor Department's partners for this event include the Buffalo Employment and Training Center, Hispanics United, Buffalo Chapter Job Service Employers Committee, Buffalo Chapter International Association for Workforce Professionals and Father Belle Community Center.
