ALBANY, NY (02/04/2008; 1300)(readMedia)-- On Friday, February 1, 2008 the NYS Alliance for Arts Education (NYSAAE), was pleased to welcome their new Executive Director, Jeremy Johannesen.
For the past three years, Johannesen has served as Deputy Director of the New York Library Association (NYLA) in Albany. Prior to NYLA, he worked for the New York State Chiropractic Association as well as the Commission on Economic Opportunity, a community action agency serving Rensselaer County. Before beginning his career in not-for-profit management, Johannesen earned his undergraduate degree in Art Education from the College of Saint Rose, and subsequently taught high school art in the Cairo Durham school district.
NYSAAE Board President, Carol Brown remarked “We are excited to welcome Jeremy to lead the Alliance. We look forward to utilizing his background in organization management to continue to stabilize our organization as well as to launch our 2008 Membership campaign.”
“I am looking forward to the new challenges that NYSAAE will offer as well as returning to work in the art education arena,” Johannesen stated. He continued, “NYSAAE’s mission of working to ensure that the arts are included in every New Yorker’s education is something that is near and dear to my heart.”
Jeremy resides in the hill towns of Albany County with his wife Christine and their two sons.
Since 1973, the New York State Alliance for Arts Education has worked to ensure that the arts become an integral part of every person's education in New York State. Through statewide visibility and outreach, NYSAAE motivates and mobilizes leaders and decision-makers who have the power to make arts education priority in New York State’s schools. NYSAAE convenes groups from across the state to discuss policy, review the impact of legislation, and gather support for the arts education agenda. NYSAAE is a non-profit organization funded in part by the New York State Council on the Arts and its membership and is a member of the Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education Network.
