NYSBA Com. on Animals and the Law Presents Program on Animal Cruelty
ALBANY, NY (09/03/2008; 1022)(readMedia)-- The New York State Bar Association's Special Committee on Animals and the Law will present a multidisciplinary program, "Teen Animal Cruelty: Legal Issues & Practical Solutions" on September 15, 2008, from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, 55 Fifth Avenue at 12th Street, New York. The event is free and open to the public.
Scheduled panelists include:
- Dana Campbell, Esq., Animal Legal Defense Fund Criminal Justice Program and Adjunct Professor of Law, Cornell Law School (teaching Animal Law).
- Maya Gupta, PhD (psychotherapist trained in the use of AniCare treatment program), President of Ahimsa House (shelter for humans and animals).
- Randall Lockwood, PhD (psychologist), Vice-President for Anti-Cruelty Initiatives at the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
- Professor John De Witt Gregory, Sidney and Walter Siben Distinguished Professor of Family Law, Hofstra University School of Law (teaching Animal Law, juvenile justice, and other courses).
- Carol Moran, Esq., Deputy District Attorney for the Kings County, New York.
- Siobhan O'Grady, Esq., Assistant NYC Corporation Counsel, Bronx Family Court Bureau.
The Special Committee on Animals and the Law was established to provide information resource to the Association's members and the public about non-human, animal-related humane issues, which arise from and have an effect upon our legal system. The Committee ascertains the needs and interests of NYSBA members and their constituents with respect to animal humane-related issues and develops programs to disseminate resource information to address those needs and interests.
