National Guard Hosts Embedding Workshop for Central New York Media

LATHAM, NY (12/17/2007; 1001)(readMedia)-- The New York National Guard will conduct a workshop Wednesday, December 19 on the embedding process for members of the press who are interested in visiting the 27th Brigade Combat Team during its deployment in Afghanistan in 2008 or downloading video, photos, and stories from DOD websites.

WHAT: Hour-long embedding workshop for members of the Syracuse-Area Press Corps.

WHEN: 1 p.m. December 19, 2007.

WHERE: 27th Brigade Combat Team Headquarters, Thompson Road Armory, 6900 Thompson Road, North Syracuse. Entry is through Hancock Air Field Gate on East Molloy Road.

WHO: Lt. Col. Paul Fanning, the public affairs officer for the 27th Brigade Combat Team and Combined Joint Task Force Phoenix.

BACKGROUND: Fanning will provide background information and specifics on the Department of Defense media embed program and details on how news organizations and reporters can visit the 27th BCT in Afghanistan in 2008. He will also discuss how US-based news organizations can access video, and photographs and conduct interviews using the internet and live-feed satellite video using the Department of Defense Digital Video and Imagery Distribution System (DIVIDS).

Members of the media will need a photo ID for access and must call LTC Fanning ahead of time in order to gain access to the armory through the Hancock Air Field main gate.
