New Mapping Interface to Provide Incidents & Traffic Cameras to Customers

Interactive Mapping System Provides Motorists with Traffic & Roadway Information

ALBANY, NY (11/06/2007; 1318)(readMedia)-- The New York State Thruway Authority today announced that an interactive mapping system, designed to provide customers with current, up-to-the-minute traffic incidents and cameras along various sections of the Thruway System, is now available on its website at www.nysthruway.gov .

“As part of its commitment to providing customers with the most current and accurate traveler information available, the Authority is pleased to offer this mapping interface,” said Thruway Authority Executive Director Michael R. Fleischer. “By using the real-time mapping, customers are now able to access specific areas along the Thruway and see reports on accidents, construction, lane closures and view traffic cameras showing real-time driving conditions. This interactive tool was designed to make travel more convenient, allowing customers to plan their trips more efficiently.”

The goal of the mapping interface is to make travel along the Thruway more convenient, efficient and enjoyable by allowing customers to plan around scheduled construction and check for any major incidents that may be affecting traffic before leaving for a trip. Travelers can check for current, up-to-the-minute traffic incidents at www.nysthruway.gov/tinc/ on the Authority’s website.

At this time, customers can access traffic cameras in the Tappan Zee Corridor as well as in the Albany and Buffalo metropolitan areas. The Authority recently added 22 additional traffic cameras to the new interactive mapping interface as part of its mission to help expand access to current travel information, for a total of 31 available traffic cameras. Customers can access these cameras by logging on to the Authority’s website at http://www.nysthruway.gov/webcams/ .
