New York State AFL-CIO Delegates Vote to Postpone Endorsement Consideration for State Senate and Assembly

ALBANY, NY (08/18/2008; 1326)(readMedia)-- Delegates to the New York State AFL-CIO's Constitutional Convention, voted unanimously today to postpone endorsement proceedings related to the New York State Senate and Assembly.

The Labor Federation's Executive Board was granted authority to decide on the endorsements at a time deemed appropriate by the Board, and when they can make an informed decision based upon the entire 2008 Legislative Session.

More than 800 delegates to the State Federation's Constitutional Convention voted on the following motion:

"The New York State AFL-CIO will make no endorsements for any candidate for the New York State Senate and New York State Assembly at this time and authorizes the Executive Council of the Federation to vote on possible endorsements at the earliest and most effective date."

New York State AFL-CIO President Denis Hughes stated "We will forego endorsements until the conclusion of the Legislature's special session. At that time, we will consider endorsing those candidates who have shown a clear understanding of the needs and concerns of working men and women. Our decision will be based on each legislator's full body of work."
