Elder Law Section Offers Legal Consultation Services Throughout Schenectady County
ALBANY, NY (10/30/2008; 1225)(readMedia)-- The Elder Law Section of the New York State Bar Association will be sponsoring five upcoming pro bono legal clinics to provide local seniors with free legal counsel on a wide variety of aging-related issues. Hosted in conjunction with The Schenectady County Department of Senior and Long Term Care Services and Catholic Charities of Schenectady County, the clinics will be held at various locations across Schenectady County.
The dates, times and locations of the clinics are as follows:
November 10, 2008 --12:30 p.m. at the Duanesburg Community Center
November 12, 2008 --11:15 a.m. at the Scotia-Glenville Senior Center
November 13, 2008 -- 11:15 a.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Senior Meal Center
November 17, 2008 -- 11:30 a.m. at the Schenectady County Jewish Community Center
November 21, 2008 -- 11:15 a.m. at the Ten Eyck Apartments
An Elder Law section attorney will provide a brief presentation at each clinic regarding important legal issues facing older adults, including the essential aspects of wills, power of attorney, and health care proxies. The clinics also will provide ample time for attendees to ask questions as a group or on an individual basis. If a senior's legal problem is beyond the scope of the attorney's knowledge, or is too complicated to solve within the applicable time frame, the attorney will then direct the senior to additional referral sources.
For those wishing to register for the pro bono senior clinics, please contact Susan Ripley at Catholic Charities of Schenectady County at (518) 346-1852, Ext. 5.
