New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony

ALBANY, NY (10/06/2008; 1255)(readMedia)-- The 2008 New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, October 7th, 11 a.m., at the New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial site at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, N.Y.

United States Senator Hillary Clinton, New York Governor David A. Paterson, and other dignitaries will be attending. Event duration: one hour. Members of the press are encouraged to arrive by 10 a.m.

This year the New York State Fallen Firefighter Memorial Ceremony pays tribute to five Empire State firefighters who gave their lives in the line of duty in 2007. In addition, one firefighter who was lost in 2008 will be honored. The ceremony will also recognize four firefighters who lost their lives in years past and whose names are now being added to the Fallen Firefighter Memorial Wall. We eulogize their courage and valor.

A ceremony has been conducted annually since 1998 commemorating the firefighters who have died in the line of duty. The New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial, located at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, includes a sculpture and memorial wall inscribed with the names of firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
