New Yorkers Say Spitzer Must Testify

Mondello Statement on Quinnipiac Poll

ALBANY, NY (10/02/2007; 1654)(readMedia)-- Today’s Quinnipiac poll is the latest evidence that the vast majority of New Yorkers continue to demand that Governor Spitzer testify publicly under oath.

The fact that nearly eighty percent of New Yorkers believe that Governor Spitzer must tell the truth about the Troopergate scandal should send a clear message to Governor Spitzer, yet he continues to avoid public scrutiny on this issue.

Of equal concern, seventy-seven percent of voters surveyed believe that corruption is a serious problem in New York. This indicates that the actions of Governor Spitzer’s administration, and his hesitation to tell what really happened, are taking a serious toll on the public’s faith and trust in government.

His evasion on Troopergate and his lack of real results on issues that matter to New Yorkers-- including the need for lower taxes for homeowners, businesses and seniors; job creation and economic development, particularly upstate; and commonsense criminal justice measures-- has sent his approval rating to its lowest point ever.

The public is demanding action from the Governor. The obvious question on everyone’s mind is, “If Governor Spitzer has nothing to hide, why won’t he simply tell the truth?”
