Turnpike Officials Break Ground for New Allegheny River Bridge
CHESWICK, PA (09/14/2007; 1234)(readMedia)-- The Pa. Satellite News Service will provide a 2 p.m. satellite feed of a news conference held this morning at 10 o’clock near the Turnpike’s Allegheny River Bridge, Harmar Township, Allegheny County.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Chief Executive Officer Joe Brimmeier hosted the ceremony to mark the start of construction of twin bridges that will replace the existing span carrying Interstate 76 over the Allegheny River 14 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
The $190 million project includes replacement of the Turnpike’s 56-year-old Allegheny River crossing; it is part of a total reconstruction of Interstate 76 between the Pa. Route 28 overpass and Oakmont Service Plaza — a project that will widen the Turnpike from two to three lanes each direction.
Project completion is set for summer, 2010.
The feed includes sound-bites from CEO Brimmeier, b-roll of groundbreaking and video of the existing bridge and adjacent construction site.
