PA Turnpike Closed Between the Harrisburg-East and Reading Interchanges for Six Hours Early Sunday Morning

PHILADELPHIA, PA (10/23/2007; 0911)(readMedia)-- The Pennsylvania Turnpike is advising motorists that on Sunday morning, October 28, between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m., the Turnpike will be CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC between the Harrisburg-East (Exit #247) and Reading (Exit #286) Interchanges while construction crews dismantle the old ramp bridge at the Lebanon/Lancaster Interchange (Exit #266). A newly constructed ramp bridge over the mainline Turnpike is complete and already in use. All eastbound and westbound traffic must exit at the Harrisburg-East and Reading Interchanges. Also, traffic will be prohibited from entering the Turnpike from Route 72 at the Lebanon/Lancaster Interchange (exit #266).

Additionally, there will be eastbound and westbound single lane patterns and intermittent stoppages within the construction area Saturday night, October 27, from 9 p.m. to midnight before the scheduled shutdown. TRUCKERS PLEASE NOTE: Construction will impede trucks that are traveling northbound on Rt. 72 from entering the Turnpike, from 9 p.m. on Saturday, October 27 to midnight and from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Sunday, October 28. All trucks traveling northbound on Rt. 72 during this period will have to continue north, turn around and enter the Turnpike from the southbound direction. State Troopers will be on site to monitor traffic.

MOTORISTS CAN TAKE THE FOLLOWING DETOURS:

ALL EASTBOUND TRAFFIC

Exit: Harrisburg East #247/Old 19

Re-enter: Reading #286/Old 21

Take PA Route 283 East (29 miles) to PA Route 283/US Route 30 East (1 mile) to US Route 222 North (15 miles). Re-enter the Turnpike at the Reading Interchange (286/Old 21).

ALL WESTBOUND TRAFFIC

Exit: Reading #286/Old 21

Re-enter: Harrisburg East #247/Old 19

Take US Route 222 south (15 miles) to PA Route 283/US Route 30 (1 mile) to PA Route 283 west (29 miles). Re-enter the PA Turnpike at Harrisburg East (247/old 19).
