CORTLAND, NY (11/21/2008)(readMedia)-- The collaborative artwork of two SUNY Cortland students and two Chinese students will be on display in an exhibit titled "Permission to Speak" from Nov. 26 - Dec. 12 at the Main Street SUNY Cortland's Beard Building Gallery located at 9 Main St.
An opening reception will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, from 4-8 p.m. at the gallery. Refreshments will be provided.
The four featured student artists are SUNY Cortland fine arts majors Ken Little of Ballston Lake, N.Y., and Gina Smith of East Meadow, N.Y., and Pen Xue Jing and Liu Wei from the Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute of China.
Last summer, the students created their artworks at the historic Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute, which has had close ties with SUNY Cortland for the past decade. The Beard Building Gallery event marks the first time an international exhibition featuring undergraduate student work made at the Institute has been presented at SUNY Cortland.
"We are very proud that the Beard Building Gallery is able to highlight the ongoing creative cooperation between the Art and Art History Department and the Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute in a first of its kind exhibition for the Cortland community," said Art History Professor Kathryn Kramer, who is also the gallery's exhibition coordinator. "It is also exciting that the Beard Building Gallery is extending its mission to the international level."
The gallery is a cooperative effort between SUNY Cortland, the Cultural Council of Cortland County and the Cortland Downtown Partnership. Gallery hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
