Plumbers Recruit Apprentices

BOHEMIA, NY (10/19/2007; 1500)(readMedia)-- -- The Joint Apprenticeship Committee for Plumbers, Local 200, will conduct recruitment from November 5, 2007 through April 21, 2008 for 15 apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.

Applications will be available at the local, 375 Central Ave., Bohemia, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., the first and third Monday of each month, excluding holidays.

The committee requires that applicants:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have a high school or general equivalency diploma.
  • Have lived in Nassau or Suffolk County for at least six months prior to the application date.
  • Have a valid driver’s license – required to drive company vehicles.
  • Pay a $15 application fee.
  • Sign an affidavit stating they are physically able to do the work.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
