Plumbers and Steamfitters Recruit Apprentices

ALBANY, NY (02/20/2008; 1208)(readMedia)-- The Plumbers and Steamfitters Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, Local 267, will conduct recruitment from February 27, 2008 through April 23, 2008 for seven pipefitter apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the local, 150 Midler Park Drive, Syracuse, from 9 a.m. to noon, the fourth working Wednesday of each month during the recruitment period.

The committee requires that applicants:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have a high school or equivalency diploma -- transcript or certificate required if selected for the program.
  • Have reliable transportation to work sites and related instruction classes.
  • Sign an affidavit stating they are physically able to do the work.
  • Pass a drug test, at the sponsor’s expense, at the time of appointment.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
