NYSDOT to Provide Access to Video Feeds from Traffic Cameras
ALBANY, NY (10/25/2007; 1602)(readMedia)-- To provide the traveling public with better real-time travel information, the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has issued a Request for Interest and Participation (RFIP) to determine whether private-sector parties and media outlets would want non-exclusive access to video feeds from the department’s roadside closed-circuit television (CCTV) traffic cameras. In addition, NYSDOT is seeking information on the technical approach the outside parties would propose to use to connect to the video equipment at NYSDOT Traffic Management Centers (TMCs) to obtain the feeds. The department is also requesting information on ways to improve cooperative efforts in delivering travel information and transportation safety advisories to the public.
After receiving responses to this RFIP, the department intends to allow access to video feeds by entering into agreements with the parties that |consent to the requirements of the RFIP. NYSDOT may enter into agreements with one or more outlets to allow access to video feeds.
The RFIP contains complete information about the requirements associated with accessing the department's traffic videos and explains how and when interested parties are to respond to the RFIP. It states which of the department's TMCs have traffic video feeds available for distribution under the RFIP and contains a schedule for interested parties to visit the TMCs to learn more about the technical aspects of the video equipment used.
