Roofers Recruit Apprentices

BINGHAMTON, NY (02/08/2008; 1040)(readMedia)-- The Roofers Local 203 Joint Apprenticeship Committee, Binghamton Area I, will conduct recruitment from February 11, 2008 through February 6, 2009 for two apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.

Applications will be available at the local, 32 W. State St., Binghamton, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

The committee requires that applicants:

• Be at least 18 years old.
• Have transportation to and from work sites and related instruction classes.
• Sign an affidavit stating they are physically able to do the work.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
