PLATTSBURGH, NY (04/15/2008; 1132)(readMedia)-- The State University of New York College at Plattsburgh will host its annual spring open house for prospective freshman and transfer students and their families on Saturday, April 19.
"The open house provides prospective students with the best opportunity to experience SUNY Plattsburgh," said Richard Higgins, director of admissions. "Attendees can meet individual faculty members to learn about their major and walk the grounds to get a feel for our campus with currently enrolled students. Student services professionals will also be on hand to highlight their offerings and to address any individual student questions.
"It’s also an opportunity to learn about the region. Our campus is located in the city of Plattsburgh and we know that students are very interested to learn what opportunities exist outside of the campus borders. We also have Lake Champlain, the Adirondacks, and a close proximity to Burlington, Vt., and Montreal, Canada. The college’s unique location provides rich recreational, cultural and educational opportunities for everyone to enjoy," Higgins said.
SUNY Plattsburgh (www.plattsburgh.edu) was founded in 1889 as a teaching college and in 1948 became an original member of the State University of New York (SUNY). Under President John Ettling, Ph.D., the four-year comprehensive college now serves 5,500 undergraduates and more than 600 graduate students. It offers over 50 undergraduate majors and a wide range of special programs that prepare graduates for professional life and advanced studies through a strong foundation in the liberal arts.
Most notably, SUNY Plattsburgh was recently recognized by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine as one of the "Top 100 Values in Public Colleges," for its mix of academic quality, financial aid, opportunities and total cost.
