Scenic Artists Recruit Apprentices

NEW YORK, NY (10/17/2007; 1552)(readMedia)-- United Scenic Artists will conduct apprentice recruitment on October 30, 2007 for five scenic artist apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.

Applications will be available at the local, 29 West 38th Street, 15th Floor, New York City, from 9 a.m. to noon, on October 30 only.

The union requires that applicants:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have a high school or general equivalency diploma.
  • Be able to pass an aptitude test.
  • Be able to read and write English.
  • Have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and related training locations.
  • Be physically able to do the work, obtain a physician’s statement confirming the applicant’s agility and ability to lift 5 gallons of paint, joint compound or other materials on the job.
  • Be able to work on ladders and scaffolding
  • Be able to work outdoors on locations under various weather and temperature conditions.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
