High school students to participate in annual Regional Juried Art Exhibition
ALBANY, NY (02/28/2008; 1351)(readMedia)-- (Albany) – Seven students from The Albany Academies have been selected to participate in the Ninth Annual High School Regional Juried Art Exhibition.
The students chosen to take part in the exhibition are Gus Abruzzese '08, Valerie Altounian '09, Alex Brix '08, Sooha Lim '09, Drue Sokol '09, Sam Spitalny '09 and Daniella Zeman '10.
The exhibit will be held from Sunday, March 30 to Sunday, April 13 at the Opalka Gallery at the Sage College of Albany campus, with the kick off reception being held on March 30 from 1-3 p.m.
The exhibition celebrates the accomplishments of talented student artists. Regional high school teachers (independent and public) submit work for the exhibition, with only three works allowed to be submitted per student. The work is then evaluated by three jurors.
Approximately 400 pieces of work were submitted and displayed at Emma Willard School for judging and awarding, which takes a full day and determines the artwork chosen for the exhibition. Drue Sokol received an honorable mention from the judges for her work with digital photography.
This year's guest speaker and juror at the kick off reception is Dr. Patricia Barbanell of the Schenectady City School District; additional jurors will be Karene Faul of The College of Saint Rose and Timothy M. Martin of Sage College of Albany.
The Albany Academies is home to the two campuses of The Albany Academy (West Campus) and Albany Academy for Girls (East Campus), which share a nearly 200-year-old tradition of outstanding single-gender independent school education. Both campuses bring with them deeply treasured values of community, tradition, and purpose to the newly formed school known as The Albany Academies.
The Albany Academies is committed to developing the potential of the whole individual by building a community that fosters scholarship, leadership, character, service and creativity.
