Sprinkler Fitters Recruit Apprentices

ORCHARD PARK, NY (10/18/2007; 1515)(readMedia)-- The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Sprinkler Fitters, Local 669 (Western Region), Zones A, B, C and D, will conduct recruitment from November 4, 2007 through April 26, 2008 for five apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.

Applications can be obtained for Zone A at Local 22, 3651 California Road, Orchard Park, from 9 a.m. to noon, on the following Saturdays, November 4 and 18, December 2 and 16, January 5 and 19, February 2 and 16, March 8 and 29 and April 12 and 26; for Zone B at the Rochester Works Career Center, 276 Waring Road, Rochester, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday: for Zone C, at the NYS Department of Labor, Division of Employment Services, 19 E. 3rd St., Jamestown, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday: for Zone D, at the NYS Department of Labor, 20 Denison Parkway West, Corning, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The committee requires that applicants:

• Be at least 18 years old.
• Have a high school or general equivalency diploma.
• Take a physical examination and a drug test at the committee’s expense, after acceptance for the program.
• Live within the local’s geographic jurisdiction: Zone A -- Erie and Niagara Counties; Zone B -- Monroe, Wayne, Yates and Livingston Counties; Zone A and B -- Genesee Wyoming, and Orleans Counties; Zone C -- Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties; Zone D -- Steuben, Chemung, Schuyler, Tompkins and Tioga Counties.
• If a veteran, submit a copy of their DD 214.
• Proof of education and veteran status must be submitted at the time of indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
