Sprinkler Fitters Recruit Apprentices

SYRACUSE, NY (10/25/2007; 1551)(readMedia)-- The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Sprinkler Fitters, Local 669 (Central NY), will conduct recruitment from January 5 through June 28, 2008 for five apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the U.A. Training Center, 150 Midler Park, Syracuse, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., on the following Saturdays: January 5 and 19; February 2 and 16; March 8 and 29; April 12 and 26; May 10 and 31; and June 14 and 28. Completed applications must be mailed to Sprinkler Fitters Local 669, Attn: Eric Packard, P.O. Box 271, Warsaw, NY 14569.

The committee requires that applicants:

• Be at least 18 years old.
• Have a high school or equivalency diploma.
• Take a physical examination and a drug test at the committee’s expense, after acceptance for the program.
• If a veteran, submit a copy of their DD 214.

Proof of education and veteran status must be submitted at the time of indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
