Sprinkler Fitters Recruit Apprentices

ALBANY, NY (09/05/2007; 1506)(readMedia)-- White Plains, NY (September 5, 2007)—The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for Sprinkler Fitters, Local 669 (Central NY), will conduct recruitment from September 8 through October 20, 2007 for five apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the NYS Bldg & Construction Trades Council, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., on the following days: September 8 and 22; October 6 and 20. Applications can also be obtained Monday through Friday (excluding holidays), from 9am to 4pm at the following NYS Department of Labor employment offices: Clinton County – One Worksource, 194 US Oval, Plattsburgh, Essex County – Elizabethtown One Worksource Center, 2 Church Street, Elizabethtown, Franklin County - Malone One Worksource Center, 158 Finney Blvd. & Woodward St., Malone, Fulton County – Gloversville Workforce Solutions, 199 S. Main St. Gloversville, St. Lawrence County- St. Lawrence One-Stop Career Center, 80 State Highway 310, Suite 8, Canton. Completed applications must be mailed to Sprinkler Fitters Local 669, P.O. Box 271, Warsaw, NY 14569.

The committee requires that applicants:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have a high school or equivalency diploma.
  • Take a physical examination and a drug test at the committee’s expense, after acceptance for the program.
  • Have transportation to and from work sites and related instruction classroom (classes held in Albany)
  • If a veteran, submit a copy of their DD 214.

Proof of education and veteran status must be submitted at the time of indenture.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
