DES MOINES, IA (08/17/2008; 1503)(readMedia)-- The hours might be numbered for the 2008 Iowa State Fair, but the buzz on the 2009 Fair has already started. With the theme, "State Fair Time" in mind, eager Fairgoers are already marking their calendars for August 13-23.
The 2009 theme, "State Fair Time," epitomizes that time of year when Fairgoers make their annual trek to Des Moines' east side for a taste of the staples - the food, fun, free entertainment, competition, livestock and people watching - that only the Fair can offer. The logo, designed by Trilix Marketing Group of Urbandale, features a bold clock graphic in warm red, gold and brown color tones.
The Iowa State Fair, the state's largest single tourism event, attracts more than one million people annually. With the state's largest arts show, largest foods department of any state fair and one of the world's largest livestock shows all in the same place, it's no surprise it was named in the New York Times best-selling travel book 1000 Places To See Before You Die. The Fair is also included in the recently published, 1000 Place To See in the U.S.A. and Canada Before You Die.
In 2006 and 2008, the Fair was listed in Discover America's Top 200 Events in the Nation, joining the ranks of the Super Bowl, the Kentucky Derby and the Daytona 500. The event was USA Weekend's #2 choice for summer fun in America and recognized by Family Fun magazine as one of America's Great Fairs and Festivals.
Final attendance figures for the 2008 Fair will be released in late September.
The 2009 Iowa State Fair is set for August 13-23. For more information, call 800/545-FAIR or check out www.iowastatefair.org
