State Officials to Commemorate Triangle Fire Tuesday, March 18 at 1 p.m. on Plaza Concourse

ALBANY, NY (03/18/2008; 0856)(readMedia)-- State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith today announced that she will join Assemblywoman Susan John, and State Senators Serphin Maltese and Joseph Robach at a ceremony to honor the memory of the nearly 150 garment workers who died in the Triangle Shirtwaist Company fire 97 years ago.
The ceremony will take place today, Tuesday, March 18, at 1:00 p.m. on the Concourse Level of the Empire State Plaza near Key Bank, across from the entrance to The Egg.
The Triangle fire claimed 146 victims, mostly women and young girls, on March 25, 1911 in New York City and was the driving force behind the nation’s first significant safety laws aimed at protecting workers.
