CORTLAND, NY (02/22/2008; 1315)(readMedia)-- The Hon. Robert C. Mulvey, a New York State Supreme Court Justice in the Sixth Judicial District, will discuss “Law and Lawyering - A View from the Bench” on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at SUNY Cortland.
A SUNY Cortland alumnus, Mulvey was elected in 2001 to the bench of the Tompkins County Supreme Court, located in Ithaca, N.Y. He will begin his lecture at 6 p.m. on the Old Main third floor mezzanine. Presented by the Political Science Department and the student-run Political Science Association, the talk is free and open to the public.
Elected for a term running until 2014, Mulvey previously was a legislative counsel to the New York State Senate from 1994-2000. He also served as Tompkins County attorney from 1987-93 and as Tompkins County assistant district attorney from 1982-87. He joined the Mulvey Law Firm as associate in 1981. In 1994, he became partner in the Albanese & Mulvey Law Firm, a position he retained until 2000.
Mulvey, who earned a Bachelor of Arts in History in 1977 from SUNY Cortland, received his law degree from New York University School of Law in 1980. The following year, he was admitted to the bar in the New York State Appellate Division, Third Department, as well as the United States District Court, Northern District of New York.
A member of the Tompkins County Bar Association since 1981, Mulvey is a past member of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association. He chaired the Tompkins County Republican Committee from 1997-2000 and is a Past Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent and Protected Order Elks Lodge No. 636.
