ASTORIA, NY (04/14/2008; 2324)(readMedia)-- In December 2007, Tap Into The City, based in Queens, NY, launched a grassroots campaign to promote New York City tap water through the sale of their safe, non-leaching recycled plastic NYC H2O Sports Bottle. Now, with the sale of every NYC H2O Sports Bottle, Tap Into the City will donate one dollar to Riverkeeper, the non-profit organization that works to safeguard the ecological integrity of the Hudson River and protect New York City’s drinking water supply.
In recent weeks, tap water versus bottled water has become a major news story. The abundance of information on the safety of drinking water from plastic bottles, much of it contradictory, has left the average consumer frustrated and confused. At Tap Into The City, our goal is to promote tap water and educate people about why tap water is the best choice. New Yorkers can visit www.tapintothecity.com and learn about New York City water quality, safe plastics, environmental statistics, carbon and water footprints, and take action on social issues relating to water. Then they can purchase an NYC H2O Sports Bottle and help protect the City’s public water supply.
Sandy McKelvey, founder of Tap Into The City, says, “We are thrilled to be partnering with Riverkeeper to promote New York City drinking water. Water is a public resource. And New Yorkers don’t need to waste their money on bottled water when clean, safe, great-tasting New York City tap water is available for all.”
Brooklyn Borough President, Marty Markowitz says, the NYC H2O Sports Bottle “is a brilliant idea whose time has not only come – but is long overdue!”
