The Albany Academies Celebrates Literacy Week

Variety of Lower School activities planned to promote importance of reading

ALBANY, NY (04/15/2008; 1727)(readMedia)-- The Lower School at The Albany Academies is currently celebrating National Library Week (April 14-18) on both the East (140 Academy Road in Albany) and West Campuses (135 Academy Road in Albany), featuring a variety of special programs promoting the importance of literacy education.

Highlights scheduled for the remainder of this week include:

Wednesday, April 16: Students bring in a vegetable to school such as turnips, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, celery and carrots to make stone soup for all to share! A special assembly of Komotion will be held and the Pre-K and Kindergarteners get to choose "new" used books in library class. Throughout the week, students in the Lower School will have the opportunity to bring in a gently used book to exchange with classmates for a "new" used book.

Thursday, April 17: Students can wear their favorite pajamas to school for a special party as they read together and enjoy a wonderful book! A Readers Theater by the fourth grade class will also be held on this special day.

Friday, April 18: Students will be attending a presentation by Author Daniel Mahoney, Jr., and enjoy some pat-a-cake with freckle juice!
