Thruway Authority Announces Pavement Replacement on New England Thruway (I-95) Necessitates Traffic Split

ALBANY, NY (10/12/2007; 1130)(readMedia)-- The New York State Thruway Authority today announced that pavement replacement on I-95 (New England Thruway) has necessitated a traffic split, southbound, just south of Exit 15 (New Rochelle, US Route1). This replacement is part of an ongoing repaving project currently underway on I-95.

A southbound traffic split is necessary in order to complete the replacement; the split is scheduled to remain in place through the end of November.

The southbound split spans one half mile from just south of Exit 15 (New Rochelle, US Route 1) and included the placement of concrete barriers between the left and center lanes. Traffic in the left lane has been diverted to the left shoulder to the left of the barrier. Traffic in the center lane has been diverted to the right lane, and traffic in the right lane has been diverted to the right shoulder, both to the right of the barrier. In total, three lanes remain open to traffic.

As always, motorists are encouraged to drive with caution through work zones and obey all posted work zone speed limit signs. The Authority has activated its Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) and placed them in advance of the split to advise motorists.

The overall project spans I-95 from Exit 17 (Larchmont) to Exit 8 (Orchard Beach, City Island) and includes shoulder repaving, repairs to the pavement and repairs to the bridges at Amtrak/Erskine Place, Eastchester Creek, Hutchinson River Parkway and Reynolds Lane Underpass.

ECCO III Enterprises, Inc., of Yonkers, New York was awarded the $28.2 million contract in August 2006. The overall project is scheduled for completion in November 2008. The Authority appreciates motorists’ patience and understanding while these necessary repairs take place.

The Authority offers a free email service called TRANSalert to its customers via email or text messaging to inform them of major unscheduled incidents that may affect their travel on the Thruway. To sign up for the TRANSalert service, customers can visit the Authority’s website at www.nysthruway.gov/tas/.
