Thruway Authority Announces Ramp Closure on New England Thruway (I-95) – Detour Route Posted

Motorists Encouraged to Drive with Caution Through Construction Zones

ALBANY, NY (08/21/2008; 1031)(readMedia)-- The New York State Thruway Authority today announced that paving work on the ramp from New England Thruway (I-95) southbound to the Hutchinson River Parkway southbound will necessitate the overnight closure of the ramp. This work is necessary in order to complete an ongoing repaving project currently underway on I-95.

Weather permitting, the southbound Exit 14 (Hutchinson River Parkway South) exit ramp from I-95 will be closed, on Thursday, August 21 from midnight to 5:30 a.m. and on Saturday, August 23 from 1:00 a.m. until 6:00 a.m. These closures are necessary to mill and fill the current asphalt overlay on the exit ramp.

There will be signs notifying motorists of the following detour route: I-95 south to Exit 8C (Pelham Parkway West), on to Pelham Parkway. Motorists can then access the Hutchinson River Parkway southbound. The detour for Orchard Beach and City Island will use Exit 8B (Orchard Beach, City Island, Pelham Parkway East) and follow the existing signage.

The Authority's Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) will be activated and in place in advance of the southbound exit ramp. As always, motorists are encouraged to drive with caution through work zones and obey all posted work zone speed limit signs.

The overall repaving project which spans I-95 from Exit 17 (Larchmont) to Exit 8 (Orchard Beach, City Island) includes shoulder repaving, repairs to the pavement and repairs to the bridges at Amtrak/Erskine Place, Eastchester Creek, Hutchinson River Parkway and Reynolds Lane Underpass.

ECCO III Enterprises, Inc., of Yonkers, New York was awarded the $28.2 million contract in August 2006. The overall repaving project is scheduled for completion in November 2008. The Authority appreciates motorists' patience and understanding while these necessary repairs take place.
