Thruway Authority Announces Reopening of Union Avenue Bridge

Bridge Rehabilitation Completed Ahead of Schedule

ALBANY, NY (09/05/2007; 1459)(readMedia)-- The New York State Thruway Authority today announced that the Union Avenue Bridge, closed since July 9 for rehabilitation that was scheduled for completion on Friday, September 7, has been reopened to traffic today, ahead of schedule.

The Union Avenue Bridge is located over the Thruway (I-87), approximately three miles north of Interchange 17 (Newburgh, I-84, Rte. 17K, Stewart Airport).

The rehabilitation included concrete substructure repair, milling and overlay of the existing bridge wearing surface, pier protection along I-87, replacing bridge joints and guiderail and a bridge railing upgrade.

The $1.4 million contract was awarded to I & OA Slutzky of Hunter, NY.

The Authority has appreciated motorists’ patience and understanding while this essential highway improvement project took place.
