Thruway Authority Announces Sign Inspections Near Interchange 24

ALBANY, NY (04/07/2008; 1451)(readMedia)-- The New York State Thruway Authority today announced that overhead sign inspections will necessitate eastbound lane closures near Interchange 24 (Albany, I-87/I-90, Montreal) from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2008, weather permitting.

On Wednesday, April 9 beginning at 9:30 a.m., Authority maintenance crews will be closing the left eastbound lane from milepost 150.8 to 148.9, which is located between Interchange 24 (Albany, I-87/I-90, Montreal) and Interchange 25 (Schenectady, I-890, Route 146 & 7).

Once the sign inspection has been completed above the left lane, Authority maintenance crews will then close the left and center lanes in order to continue the inspections. The sign inspections are scheduled to be completed by 2:00 p.m.

The Authority will activate its Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) as well as post Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) in advance of the area to advise motorists of the lane closures.

Motorists are reminded to remain alert and aware of their surroundings while traveling through the work zone. Motorists should also keep in mind that speeding fines are doubled in work zones.

The Authority appreciates motorists’ patience and understanding while this essential inspection takes place.

The Authority offers a free email service called TRANSalert to its customers via email or text messaging to inform them of major unscheduled incidents that may affect their travel on the Thruway. To sign up for the TRANSalert service, customers can visit the Authority’s website at www.nysthruway.gov/tas/.
