Thruway Authority Reports Heavy Flooding Between Interchanges 26 & 27

Motorists Being Diverted Off Thruway Due to Heavy Rains, Flooding

ALBANY, NY (07/23/2008; 1828)(readMedia)-- The New York State Thruway Authority has announced areas of heavy rains and flooding between Interchanges 26 (Schenectady) and 27 (Amsterdam) have temporarily closed the highway.

At this time, westbound motorists are being diverted off the Thruway at Interchange 26 (milepost 162.22). Eastbound motorists are being diverted off the Thruway at Interchange 27 (milepost 173.59).

Motorists traveling in the area will need to exit the Thruway. All lanes will be reopened as conditions safely permit.

In general, motorists traveling in the Capital District area, as well as surrounding areas, are encouraged to drive with caution. Motorists should be on the lookout for flooding, standing water and heavy rains.

The Authority has activated Highway Advisory Radio and issued TRANSalerts to subscribers informing them of current highway conditions.

The Authority appreciates motorists' patience during this time.
