USI/Bertholon-Rowland To Donate $50,000 To New York Bar Foundation For Anne B. Keenan Memorial Fund

ALBANY, NY (02/13/2008; 0930)(readMedia)-- USI/Bertholon-Rowland, New York, one of the largest nationwide providers of association-sponsored insurance, has contributed a $50,000 gift to The New York Bar Foundation to establish the endowed Anne B. Keenan Memorial Fund. Annual distributions from the fund will be awarded to public service or other nonprofit organizations for programs that provide legal services for women and children who are victims of domestic violence.

Anne B. Keenan was employed by Bertholon-Rowland as Senior Vice President of Client and Program Management when she was tragically killed in an automobile accident on the Garden State Parkway in 2004. At the time of the accident, Ms. Keenan’s responsibilities included client relations, product development and marketing, and professional liability, life and health insurance underwriting for all of Bertholon-Rowland’s nationwide association-sponsored programs. She joined the company as an account manager in 1989 and her significant contributions to the success of the company allowed her to move through the ranks of management while there. During that 15-year period, Ms. Keenan was the key liaison and account manager for the New York State Bar insurance programs. She was highly respected by the employees and clients of Bertholon-Rowland for her business leadership, problem solving skills, and dedication to the association-sponsored insurance industry.

Arnol B. Kaplan, president and chief operating officer at USI/Bertholon-Rowland, stated, “We are pleased and proud to remember Anne through this memorial fund with The New York Bar Foundation. It is a fitting tribute to her that grant awards directed from this fund will help women and children who are harmed by domestic violence. Anne was an outstanding employee and dear friend and is sadly missed by her former colleagues.”

Ms. Keenan was a cum laude graduate of Montclair State College (now Montclair State University) having earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She was actively involved with Raphael’s Life House, a charitable organization in New Jersey which provides skills training and living arrangements for homeless pregnant women. She lived in Cranford, NJ and was survived by her husband of 31 years, Bill Keenan, and children, Katharine and Christopher.

John Horan, president of The New York Bar Foundation said, “We gratefully accept this gift and $50,000 commitment from USI/Bertholon-Rowland to memorialize Anne Keenan. Unfortunately, the number of victims of domestic violence is on the rise and the need for funding for legal services for them continues to increase. Programs that help to meet the legal needs of these vulnerable women and children are very important to The Foundation and we will be pleased to support them through this fund.”

USI/Bertholon-Rowland, founded in 1944 in Manhattan by Al Bertholon and Thaddeus Rowland, is one of the largest nationwide providers of association-sponsored insurance. It is now a part of USI Affinity, a division of USI Holdings Corporation which is the ninth largest insurance brokerage firm in the United States. In the six decades since its founding, USI/Bertholon-Rowland has become a trusted and stable source of personal and business insurance to nearly 50,000 professionals nationwide. In addition to its corporate office in downtown Manhattan, USI/Bertholon-Rowland maintains offices in Boston, New Jersey and Washington, DC.

According to Horan, The New York Bar Foundation provides funding to programs that facilitate the delivery of legal services, improve the justice system and law, enhance professional competence and ethics, and increase public understanding of the law and legal system. The work of The Foundation is made possible through generous contributions from lawyers, law firms, corporations and other individual donors.

Contributions to the Anne B. Keenan Memorial Fund, made payable to The New York Bar Foundation, should be sent to The New York Bar Foundation, One Elk Street, Albany, NY 12207 or you may contribute online at www.tnybf.org.
