CSEA to Endorse Scirocco at Oct. 10 Press Conference
LATHAM, NY (10/09/2007; 1000)(readMedia)-- The Civil Service Employees Association will hold a press conference Wednesday afternoon to announce the union's endorsement of Anthony "Skip" Scirocco (Republican) in the race for Saratoga Springs DPW Commissioner.
Scirocco will join union members and officials at the press conference, to be held Oct. 10 at 4 p.m. at the Holiday Inn located at 232 Broadway in Saratoga.
DPW workers say they have grown very dissatisfied with incumbent commissioner Thomas McTygue's leadership over the years and that it is time for a change.
"For over 30 years, the hard-working men and women of the city DPW have done their job with respect, professionalism and efficiency. And they've been able to do so despite Commissioner McTygue, not because of him," said CSEA DPW Unit President Joe O'Neill. "Skip Scirocco can lead. That's why the hard-working men and women of the CSEA are proud to endorse Skip for Public Works Commissioner."
"I am humbled to receive the support of the hardworking men and women of the City CSEA and DPW that have put their jobs on the line for a change," Scirocco said. "I promise to those workers and to all the residents of Saratoga Springs that I will run the department of public works with the utmost professionalism and ethical standards."
CSEA is informing its members of the endorsement and encouraging their vote in the General Election on November 6. CSEA will also work to support Scirocco's campaign through phone banks, literature drops and other get out the vote efforts.
CSEA is New York State's leading union, representing employees of New York State and its counties, towns, villages, school districts, library systems, authorities and public corporations. Together with a growing number of private sector members and 50,000 retirees, CSEA forms a union 265,000 strong. It is also the largest affiliate (and Local 1000) of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) which, in turn, is one of the largest affiliates of the AFL-CIO.
