Sheri Avis Horner named Iowan of the Day
DES MOINES, IA (08/03/2018) (readMedia)-- Des Moines, IA- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Sheri Avis Horner of West Des Moines as an Iowan of the Day for the 2018 Iowa State Fair.
Lifelong supporters of the Iowa State Fair, Sheri and the late Bob Horner have made countless contributions to keep the Fairgrounds in top-notch condition. In 2013 the Robert G. Horner and Sheri Avis Horner Service Center was named to show appreciation for their support.
Along with being active at the Iowa State Fair, Sheri dedicates her time and energy to many other charitable organizations including Blank Children's Hospital, Unity Point Health Foundation, DMACC Foundation, Variety Children's Charity, and Strands of Strength.
Sheri has assisted with the National Asphalt and Paving Association scholarships distributed to Iowa State University students from Des Moines Asphalt and Paving Company, previously owned and operated by Robert Horner. She is involved with the Italian American Heritage Foundation of Iowa, Children and Families of Iowa, and many local churches.
Sheri's day of recognition will be on Thursday, August 9 at the 2018 Iowa State Fair. She will be recognized with a presentation on the Anne & Bill Riley stage at 2:00 p.m. Along with accommodations at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown, she will receive a gift bag, Grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart.
Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's most outstanding individuals. The program continues to honor Iowans across the state who have made a difference in the lives of others, while upholding the characteristics associated with Iowa- dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.
