Huntington University seniors tenor Jacob Smith and soprano Brittany Blazier will present their senior recital at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 25 in the Longaker Recital Hall in the Merillat Centre for the Arts. Smith and Blazier will be performing various solo and duet pieces. The performance is free and open to the public. Smith, a native of Berne, Ind., is majoring in choral music education. He is a graduate of South Adams High School where he was a member of the concert and a capella choirs. His accomplishments include a gold rating for performing Schubert's "Ave Maria," and a silver rating for Purcell's "I Attempt from Love's Sickness to Fly." He was a participant in the Indiana Music Education Association's All-State Honor Choir for two years. His musical performances include "State Fair," "Cinderella," "Of Thee I Sing" and "The Wizard of Oz." During his time at HU, he has participated in concert choir as well as performing in theater productions such as "'Tis the Season" and "Guys and Dolls." He also won his division at the 2010 National Association of Teacher and Singing Student Auditions and received and honorable mention at the 2011 Student Auditions. Blazier, a choral music education major from Ossian, Ind., began her music career in elementary school. She has taken voice lessons through Pizzazz School of Performing Arts. A graduate of Norwell High School, she was heavily involved in both mixed and show choirs. She received "Best Performer" and "Best Soloist" awards on the competition circuit. While at HU she has participated at NATS three times and placed in her division two out of the three times. She participated in HU's concert and gospel choirs. She also performed in the 2012 Concerto and 2012 and 2013 Longaker Honors Recital. She sang the alto solos in the 2012 performance of Handel's "Messiah."
